Welcome to the

Princeton LGBTQIA+
Oral History Project

Founded in 2017, the Princeton LGBTQIA+ Oral History Project has worked to capture the life stories of LGBTQIA+ Princeton alumni, staff, and faculty. The Gender + Sexuality Resource Center has created this digital exhibit to amplify the voices in our archive and bring them to the community in dynamic ways.

One of our goals is to disrupt any narrative that claims Princeton University has always been an exclusively cisgender and heterosexual space. It is the mission of this project to collect the words and lived experiences of the people who have always existed against the grain. Their stories provide us with models for who we – students, researchers, and other readers – might become, within the boundaries of Princeton and beyond it. Whether you are a researcher looking into the history of queerness at Princeton or a curious human looking to enrich your knowledge, let us take you on a journey through the voices of Princeton's LGBTQIA+ past.

We invite all interested parties to explore our digital exhibit below where you can access ephemera (like posters from the past); a timeline of critical events in Princeton’s LGBTQIA+ history; and audio excerpts from oral histories.

It is important to note that this website and the accompanying archives are representative of the contributors' voices and experiences and as such, they do not represent the views of all Princetonians or the University at large.

This summer our team will be resuming oral history interviews between June - July 2025. If you are an alumni, staff, or faculty member interested in sharing your story please complete our interest form today! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Alex Rosado-Torres.
